Welcome, people! At last, I have found the time to start my own blog. I had to write my own blogging software - for some reason, finding software that simply takes a set of text files and then (intelligently) generates the necessary files is difficult to find. I'll have more to say about this utility at some point in the future. So, what is my agenda here? Well, my plan going forward is to make this a place where I write about all aspects of my life developing software for Mac OS X, the research I do as part of my PhD, and whatever else I can think of that someone out there might find interesting. This is most likely the agenda of pretty much every other blog out there, however I assure you: This one will be special. I guess a good place to start is a brief explanation for the title I have chosen for my blog. "In between midnight sun nights and dark winter days" refers to the fact that during the summers in Tromsø the sun is up all the time, while during winter, we experience "the dark times." Since most of the time somehow ends up feeling like it is somewhere in between those two extremes, it seemed a suitable title. While testing my blog software, I was experimenting with file synchronization and images. One of my test images shows one of Tromsø's most characteristic buildings. The image is over three years old, but I still like it. Me and my friends refer to it as "the empty shell":
Since I've grown used to seeing it on my blog before going public, I thought it would make for a nice first post. The building is called "Fokus" and used to house one of Tromsø's two cinemas. These days it houses the public library, has aluminum roofing and glass walls. I am hoping that this blog will prove to be much more than the empty shell that is pictured above, since it - while quite good looking - is totally devoid of content.
